Pride at First Church
This year, New York City will be the site of the largest Pride celebration in the world as the city serves as host for WorldPride and marks the historic 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. Celebrated throughout the month of June, this year’s official theme is “Millions of Moments of Pride,” and First Church is marking the occasion with a variety of activities and events. This year, we find time to pause and reflect, to grieve, to rise up and resist, to give thanks, to honor and commemorate, and to celebrate in unity. We hope you will find the opportunity for all of these things this Pride Month at The First Presbyterian Church in the City of New York.

Grant Spotlight: HMI
Hetrick-Martin Institute believes all young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential.
Hetrick-Martin creates this environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth between the ages of 13 and 24 and their families. Through a comprehensive package of direct services and referrals, HMI seeks to foster healthy youth development. Programs and services include: advocacy, trainings, counseling, arts, job readiness, academic enrichment, health and wellness, and services for homeless youth. HMI provides services six days a week, free of charge, all year round, including during the summer months when schools and other programs are often not in session. Hetrick-Martin was established in 1979, celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2019.
Over the last year, First Church has begun partnering with HMI through volunteer service and their capacity building program; HMI was also a recipient of an FPC Outreach & Service benevolence grant in 2018. If you would like to learn more about HMI or find out how you can be involved, visit their website at https://hmi.org.
If you are interested in volunteering to serve dinner at HMI with fellow FPC members, please email Nicole Stansifer at [email protected] to be added to the list.
